Bulldog Grips
|
When very strong vibrations are not foreseen in the service of the rope, loops may be made using Bulldog grips. The "U" of the grip must be placed on the dead end of the rope as illustrated, and the distance between grips being approximately 6 rope diameters. The minimum number of grips is dependant on the rope diameter; the assembly and tightening of which are described in B5:462.
After being in service for several hours the grips should be re-tightened, and re-checked for tightness periodically. Correctly fitted grips would be expected to hold at least 80% of the minimum breaking load of the rope.
